How God Speaks to Us

Phil 3I had a conversation with God today.  I actually talk to God a LOT, but He doesn’t always respond to me.  Well, in truth, it’s more likely that I don’t HEAR Him, or WAIT for Him to answer, or even LISTEN for Him.

Today was different though.  I was praying before I even got out of bed.  I was praying for guidance, for direction, for wisdom, especially for my husband.  You see, we have some big choices looming ahead of us, and they have serious financial ramifications.  I find myself worrying about the future, not sure what it holds for us.  I feel like we have been praying and praying.  Begging God for answers.  Mostly though, my question is this:  What does God want us to DO?

Then I got up and went about my normal morning routine.  This includes my daily devotional.  I say, “daily”, but I have to admit, this weekend I got a little off course and managed to skip a couple of days.  I was looking forward to getting caught up and back on track with my Bible reading.  I was ready to HEAR God speak to me, and He did!

The first thing He told me is what He wants ME to do (Deuteronomy 30:16):

In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statures and His judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply:  and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.

The next devotional that I read showed me not only what else I should do, but also what HE will do for me (Phillipians 3:6-7):

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I can’t say that these verses came to me as an earth shattering Divine revelation. I can say this though:

At the moment when I was excited and ready to hear what God had to say to me, He clearly used His Word to reveal to me the truths and promises that I needed to hear!

Sometimes it feels like God is silent when we pray to Him, but we need to be ready when God speaks to us.  Do you need to hear from God today?  Quiet your heart, pick up your Bible, and be excited about “hearing” what God has to say to you!
